Our History / Our Vendors

Urban Cottage started almost seven years ago as a part-time hobby for owner Cheryl Ohlin but quickly grew into a full-time career. The shop moved to its Nokomis location in 2013.

With a group of talented vendors, featured monthly guest vendors and an eye for great design, Urban Cottage is unique among area occasional shops.

We love supporting small business and local makers and we feel strongly in giving back to the community by sponsoring charity events each year.

MEET OUR VENDORS

CHERYL OHLIN, Urban Cottage Owner
Although my background is in medical sales, my love for vintage & repurposed items started in childhood with my dad who was the ultimate dumpster diver! I love the hunt for unique items and the creative challenge of using them to create rustic elegance and fun design.
My passion is creating an amazing experience for our customers, helping them find items they love, and providing them with a great place to shop. I love putting it all together for that "Wow!" effect, creating an exciting, fresh experience in the store every month.

WILLIAM WEBB, Lucky Bucket Mercantile
I studied sculpture and three dimensional painting at the University of Minnesota. Many of my sculptures were composed of found objects & materials scavenged from roadsides and garage sales. I developed an addiction for collecting and my home soon became my canvas.

Eventually, I established myself within the vintage home decor market. I collaborate and share a space with Sue Sutheimer at Urban Cottage. I am currently in shops in Minneapolis and River Falls, Wisconsin.

As a child I loved going to Aunt Carol's house, which is where I began my love affair with all things vintage.  For the last 7 years this passion has been a main source of my livelihood.  How lucky I am to spend part of each day doing this thing that brings me indescribable joy.  The ability to create new experiences using found or rescued items has become my art therapy.  A lifelong environmental activist, I especially love finding items that are useful, well-made and unique and then sending them off to a new home where they will have new value. Anything can be included in my collections, but some of my favorite themes are the Natural World, Industrial, and Mid-Century.

We look forward to seeing you at the shop!
